From SPHERE:
A former Episcopal priest in suburban Philadelphia who lost a legal battle with his bishop has filed a malpractice suit against the attorney who represented him in the case. David Moyer of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rosemont -- who has spoken out against liberal trends in the Episcopal Church -- was removed from the priesthood in 2002 by Bishop Charles Bennison Jr. In October, a Montgomery County jury ruled that Bennison did not act fraudulently.
Moyer and his church have now filed suit against attorney John Lewis seeking millions in compensation for the costs of the trial and alleged damage to the reputations of the ex-priest and the parish.
Lewis -- a member of Good Shepherd for 10 years who said he considered Moyer "my friend" -- denied the accusations and estimated he had done $700,000 worth of legal work at no charge in Moyer's case against the bishop. Lewis and his law firm are countersuing Moyer and the parish.
Litigious bunch aren't we?
ReplyDeleteYes, and passive aggressive - oh and we don't get satire AT ALL!
ReplyDeleteWell, Abp. Duncan (Bp Bob, Pittsburgh 7, etc.) Says that it is unbiblical for Christians to sue. I guess it's ok for conservative Christians to sue; after all everyone knows that they are always right. Or is it never wrong? Depends on whose ox is being gored. Situational ethics at its best.
ReplyDeleteSee how they love one another!
ReplyDeleteYou got that cartoon right, MP.
ReplyDeleteI know that is gets really confusing, so you need a score card and to keep it updated, but there is much more to this story.
ReplyDeleteThis guy is a bishop: Suffragan Bishop of the Armed Forces for the Anglican Church in America, which is a wannabe Anglican schismatic group; and Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of The Murray in the Anglican Church of Australia. What is up with the ACoA border crossing with schismatic priests?
No No! IT is unBiblical for Christians to sue Duncan. These details are important.
ReplyDeleteMeyer and Duncan are the sort of clerics that make those of us who have left the discernment process proud.
FWIW

And of course there are the sacrosanct moratoria which only seem to apply to keeping queers out of ordained ministry and blessed relationships but seem optional for border crossing types.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with Holy Trinity as a name for a church?
ReplyDeleteGood Shepherd as a name reminds me of bad paintings of lily-white, blond, perfectly groomed Jesus with a sheep or lamb. No dust or mud in sight. Shepherds work hard enough to get grimy, if they are any good.
The church in question was established as a Tractarian parish, not an evo one and is rabidly Anglo-Catholic.
ReplyDeleteSad news for the people.
